Housesteads

Leach Studio was appointed to work on this joint project between the National Trust and English Heritage to transform the visitor experience. Set amidst the stunningly brutal landscape of Hadrian’s Wall, we were tasked to design exhibitions within the museum and visitor centre to bring the adjoining Roman Fort to life.

A process of interpretive story mapping was carried out throughout the exhibition space to include the display of huge Roman altar stones and sensitive Roman leather work. The resulting design incorporates the Roman artefacts into a vibrant and exciting narrative.

Leach designed and commissioned a feature film which sits alongside dramatically lit stone artefacts as part of a controlled light show. The film combines location and specifically commissioned helicopter footage with hand drawn charcoal illustrations, 3D modelling, visual effects, a voiceover by Bernard Hill and a supporting soundtrack composed for the project.
