We were appointed to deliver the interpretation plan, design and delivery for a new permanent exhibition scheme at London’s iconic heritage site, Tower Bridge.
Our interpretation took visitors on a journey through the bridge’s history, starting with the very first step. The first lift, which takes visitors from the ticket office to the top of the north tower, is internally clad in wall and floor graphics which appear to the visitor as though they are inside the original lift from 1894! Looking out across the construction site and down through the gaps between the wooden floorboards of the lift, these super high-resolution images give a real impression of being taken back in time!
In the exhibition spaces, bespoke printed graphic flooring and wallpaper shows the detail of original archival plans of the bridge which we scanned to be able to reproduce at this scale. A film also provides an insight into daily life behind the scenes at Tower Bridge and follows 24 hours in the lives of the staff that operate this working bridge every day.
People stories are an important feature of the new displays - combing personal stories with the engineering marvel of the bridge itself.
With such a complex site and visitor route, we also undertook detailed surveys of the spaces to ensure a smooth transition from concepts to delivery. We also managed most of the installation outside of normal opening hours and in close collaboration with the site’s security and maintenance teams.
