The new Ancient Egypt galleries at Bolton Museum were officially opened on Friday 21st September by former star of The Apprentice, Dr Margaret Mountford, and leading Egyptologist Professor Joann Fletcher.
As part of a £3.8m restoration funded by Bolton Council, six gallery spaces have been completely renovated, with new designs telling the story of Bolton Museum’s exceptional Ancient Egypt collection. The exhibition design and fit-out was handled from concept to installation by Leach Studio, who worked alongside client Bolton Council and main contractor Willmott Dixon.
The galleries tell the story of the ancient artefacts - from who used them and where they were found, through to their journey to Bolton, initiated by Victorian Britain's links with Egypt through the cotton trade. The galleries display over 2,000 artefacts and include some of the oldest textiles in the world. Our work involved designing the full visitor journey, including artefact displays, interactives, display cases, audio-visual and graphic design.
The opening evening was enjoyed by all of the Studio team and our thanks go to Bolton Museum for a fantastic celebratory event.
